I cried when they gave me prison uniform - Tems recounts jail term in Uganda

Popular Nigerian singer, Tems recently opened up about her experience being jailed in Uganda in 2020.

It could be recalled that the music star and her colleague, Omah Lay were arrested in December 2020 after performing at a concert in Kampala that violated COVID-19 protocols.

They were charged with disobeying lawful orders and negligence, and spent five days in jail before being released on bail.

In her interview with Rolling Stone, Tems said that she was “treated like an animal” in prison.

She described being held in a crowded cell with poor sanitation and no access to food or water for long periods of time.

Tems also said that she was subjected to psychological abuse by the prison guards in Uganda.

Despite the harrowing experience, the music diva said that she is determined to continue making music.

She said that she wants to use her platform to speak out against injustice and to raise awareness of the challenges faced by young people in Africa.
