Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie has warned women against marrying men they don’t love, sharing her own story.
The single mother of one told actress Iyabo Ojo on a podcast that her marriage to Chukwuma Orizu ended because she didn’t love him anymore. She said this was partly because his family pressured her to stop acting.
“I would never tell anyone to marry someone they don’t love,” Okorie said. She thinks this is why many women cheat on their husbands. “Where I live, there are too many women who cheat in their marriages,” she said.
Okorie’s own marriage problems started when her ex-husband’s family didn’t want her to act anymore. “They didn’t want me to act or do anything in entertainment,” she said. “They said I had to stop everything if I wanted to marry into their family.”
Even though her husband supported her at first, Okorie felt too much pressure from his family. “They didn’t understand my dreams or what I wanted to do,” she said. “They didn’t understand how long I had worked to get to where I was.”
Okorie said that dreams and goals are important and should not be given up for marriage. “You can’t just tell your partner to stop dreaming because you want to marry them,” she said.
In conclusion, Angela Okorie encourages women to put their own happiness first. “Don’t let anyone tell you what to do,” she said. “Love is important for a good marriage, and you need to be honest with yourself about your feelings before you get married.”
