Tuesday in Benin, Dominion Okoro, a 25-year-old housemaid, admitted to killing Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, 85, The mother of former Edo State governor Chief Lucky Igbinedion.
Okoro, who was arrested in her hometown of Calabar, described how she committed the heinous act on December 2 by hitting her deceased boss with a stool while she was asleep to steal her belongings.
Okoro said this while parading her through the Benin headquarters of the Edo State Police. She claimed that she stole N100,000, a wristwatch, and jewellery from the GRA residence of the Igbinedions.
She explained, “I murdered Mama (Madame Maria Igbinedion) to steal her money.” She did nothing to offend me. At 12:01 a.m. on December 2, 2021, I struck her head with a stool while she was sleeping in her bed. She screamed for help, but only the gatekeeper was present and did not hear her. Mama passed away later.
“On December 2, 2021, I waited until 4:00 a.m. before leaving the house with N100,000, a wristwatch, and jewellery belonging to my mother. I escaped to Cross River State but was later apprehended by police. ”
Madame Igbinedion was laid to rest in Benin on December 10.
The police arrested the key suspect’s older sister, Patience, before capturing and transporting Dominion to Benin for a thorough examination.
Patience Okoro asserted that neither she nor her parents in Cross River State knew about Dominion’s misconduct. After a thorough investigation, he stated that the murderers of Madam Igbinedion would be brought to justice shortly.
