A man has been arrested for orchestrating the kidnapping and murder of his wife to inherit her vast fortune.
Mrs. Nneka Nwanyi-Sunday Emeh Kalu was abducted and later discovered dead on a cassava farm on August 29, 2021, in Ngugworo Community in Nguzu Edda in Afikpo South, Ebonyi State. The Nigerian Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has arrested four (4) suspects concerning her abduction and gruesome k*lling.
Police spokesperson Frank Mba identified the suspects as Irem Ifeanyi Mbah, Igwe Anya Chima, Okorie Okam, and Emeh Kalu, the deceased’s spouse and the main suspect, in a statement. The accused range in age from 25 to 40 and hail from Nguzu Edda village in the Afikpo South Local Council Area of Ebonyi State.
Mba stated that the investigation into the victim’s death was prompted by a complaint from residents of Ngugworo village, Ebonyi State, a border town with Abia State, where the victim resided when Mrs Kalu’s decomposing body was discovered in their community. The police squad apprehended the four offenders after conducting discreet investigations.
“Investigations by the police team revealed that Emeh Kalu, the deceased’s husband, hired five (5) other criminal elements to abduct his wife by luring her to meet him at a junction to pick up something for the house in an attempt to fraudulently and hastily “inherit” his wife’s numerous assets, including landed property, houses, money in the bank, and a thriving business, etc.
According to the investigation, the thieves strangled her to death after obtaining vital information regarding the location of title documents and other relevant papers of her property. To advance the investigations, efforts are being intensified to apprehend more suspects and those charged in the case.
While expressing condolences to the deceased’s family for their tragic loss, the force spokeswoman urged them to be their “brother’s keeper.”
